The second outing of the, now annual, Cygnet Youth Awards took place last month at The Elgiva Theatre in Chesham organised by the Chesham Youth Council. This year we expanded the event to include the young people of Amersham and surrounding villages, as well as from Chesham. This year’s event proved to be even more exciting than the first ceremony, hosted by the amazing Ninia Benjamin, comedian and self proclaimed ‘Queen of Chesham’, with an even wider range of talent and generosity on display. There were winners and runners up in several categories including Young Carer of the Year, Dedication to the Arts and Sport, Environmental Contribution, Supporting Diversity, Group of the Year and Fundraising and Charitable Work and out of these was chosen the Young Person of the Year, Thomas Brown who was recognised for his phenomenal fundraising.
Guests were treated to performances from both the Theatre Shed and the Chesham Grammar School Drama Club, and their dedication to providing creative services for all really shows our values as a youth group. We are immensely grateful to all of our sponsors for their donations and for presenting awards, with a special thank you to Chris from the Oasis Partnership for designing and handmaking our Cygnet trophies. The members of the Chesham Youth Council, along with their mentors Emily Culverhouse and Alan Bath, worked tirelessly to put this event on, and with the help of Ninia’s infectious energy, it was undoubtedly a fun afternoon for all!
Thank you so much to all of the nominees and winners for all the hard work you do in the local community- we hope to see you again next year!
Chesham Youth Council are always looking for new members over the age of 11 but under the age of 18, who either live or are in full time education in the Chesham and villages area.
We are entirely volunteer led and reliant on grants and donations so if you are in a position to help please contact us at admin@cheshamyouthcouncil.co.uk.
Thank you to our 2024 Sponsors, without them the event would not have happened.
